Broga Masrii, more commonly known as Broga the Hutt, was a Hutt who led the Three Families during the Cold War. During the Quesh war, Broga and his fellow clan leaders Portho Kaltemmic and Jeelta Urdosh were forced to side with the Galactic Republic against the Sith Empire and the Hutt Cartel. However, Portho and Jeelta, alongside Broga's bodyguard, Master Berin Fraal, died to Imperial forces under Moff Dracen, but Broga was spared and worked with them to save himself.[1] However, he quickly returned to the Republic,[5] to which Dracen responded by launching a siege on the Hutt's palace that ended in its capture.[6]

Broga was eventually captured by Lord Magras and forced to work for the Empire once more, but he was eventually rescued by the Republic.[7]

Behind the scenes

Broga first appeared in the MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic, released by BioWare in 2011. He is the subject of both the Imperial and Republic storylines on the planet, acting as opposition to the Sith Empire during "Quesh Showdown" and as an ally to the Republic throughout their storyline. Though there is an option to slay Broga in the Imperial storyline,[1] the Hutt appears alive and well in the Republic storyline, despite the latter taking place after the former, implying that the canonical choice was to spare Broga,[5] even though dark side choices are presented as the default for Imperial characters, automatically being chosen should content involving them be skipped.[8]

Gameplay alternatives

After striking down Berin Fraal, Imperial players are given the option to either spare Broga for light side alignment points or kill him for dark side alignment points.[1] No matter the choices made, Broga will still appear in the Republic storyline, indicating the former to be the canonical option.[5]
