The Botori, also known as the Botor, were a sentient species that inhabited around two dozen star systems in the Botor Enclave of the Core Worlds. Since the early period of the Galactic Republic, the Botori and the Dawferim Humans of the nearby Daupherm Planet States engaged in many wars, some of which lasted for centuries. Around 10 ABY, the Botor Enclave declared its independence from both the Galactic Empire and the New Republic.

Biology and appearance

The Botori,[1] also known as the Botor,[2] were an ursine sentient species.[1]

The Botori inhabited around two dozen star systems in the Botor Enclave.

The Botori inhabited approximately two dozen star systems in the fringes of a nebula inside the Botor Enclave of the Core Worlds. Those systems included the Botor system[1] and the Kerensik system,[3] which contained the planet Kerensik, the homeworld of[2] the Human[4] Kane Griggs.[2]

Since accepting the status of an Allied Region of the Galactic Republic during the early period of that government, the Botori and their ancient rival,[1] the Dawferim[2] Humans of the nearby Daupherm Planet States area, engaged in at least forty wars, with some of them lasting for centuries. A large number of laws and traditions regulating nearly every aspect of the conflicts, including vendettas, privateering, and all-out war, emerged over the subsequent millennia. Both the Republic and its successor, the Galactic Empire, only intervened in the Botor-Daupherm conflicts when they began to spill over into the larger galaxy.[1]

By 10 ABY,[5] the Botor Enclave and the Dawferim had engaged in a five-hundred-years-long small-scale feud. Also by that time, the systems of the Botor Enclave grouped together and formed a protective federation due to the lack of a centralized galactic government and the ongoing conflict between the Empire and the New Republic.[2] In the process, the Botor Enclave also declared its independence from both the Empire and the New Republic.[1]

Behind the scenes

The Botori were first mentioned as the "Botor" in the Dark Empire Sourcebook, Michael Allen Horne's 1993 sourcebook published by West End Games for use with Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.[2] The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas by Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry described the inhabitants of the Botor Enclave as a distinct species and named them Botori.[1]
