- "But look at you. You brought in our biggest catch ever."
- ―Gregor to Garazeb Orrelios upon catching the Big Bongo
Big Bongo was a giant joopa that lived under the crust of Seelos,[1] a planet located in the Outer Rim Territories.[3] Following his retirement, the human clone Gregor, former soldier of Galactic Republic, came to live on Seelos aboard a modified AT-TE walker with two of his comrades, Rex and Wolffe. Over time, Gregor became obsessed with catching Big Bongo. When the Spectres arrived on Seelos, Gregor convinced one of them, Garazeb Orrelios, to serve as bait for the giant joopa, who was thought to enjoy the taste of Lasat meat. The Big Bongo ambushed Orrelios, causing cracks in the surface under the Lasat's feet,[1] before wrapping his slimy tongue around Orrelios. Big Bongo then then yanked his prey under the surface and into his belly.[3]
Two other members of the Spectres, the Jedi-in-hiding Kanan Jarrus and his apprentice Ezra Bridger, used Joopa prods to send bolts of energy along a laser line under the surface. When Big Bongo finally surfaced,[1] with the regulator laser line leading into his gut,[3] Rex killed him with a direct hit from the main cannon of the AT-TE. After Big Bongo's death, Gregor helped Orrelios exit Big Bongo's mouth. When Orrelios chastised Gregor for his near-death, Gregor countered, and reminded the Lasat that he brought in Big Bongo, who was their biggest catch ever.[1] The clones carried the creature's carcass on the side of their walker for a time. However, when the Galactic Empire launched an assault against them, Gregor and his comrades were forced to abandon it for the sake of greater mobility.[4]
Characteristics
Big Bongo had gray and green skin,[1] and his crown was covered in bright red eyes. He had a long slimy tongue[3] that could extend beyond his mouth.[1] Big Bongo also had hooked mouthparts, but no actual teeth, so he swallowed his prey, including people, whole.[3]
