The Heroes of Yavin

The Heroes of Yavin

"It should come as no surprise that the so-called 'Heroes of Yavin' were once again at the hub of activity."
―Voren Na'al, to the Alliance of Free Planets Provisional Council, regarding the Bakura Incident[1]

The Heroes of Yavin was a collective term used by historians such as Arhul Hextrophon and Voren Na'al to refer to the small cadre of Rebels responsible for the defeat of the first Death Star—namely, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Leia Organa, Chewbacca, and the droids R2-D2 and C-3PO. They were also known as the Star Warriors. Later, Lando Calrissian came to be associated with this group, even though he did not participate in the attack on the first Death Star. Though named for their victory at Yavin 4, they were instrumental to the success of the Rebellion, the Alliance of Free Planets, the New Republic, and the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances in countless ways.

For the most part, the group did not compose a formal unit. For some time after the Battle of Yavin, Skywalker was not even given a formal rank.[2] In 5 BBY,[3] the Heroes of Yavin were organized into the Rapid Response Team, a special-operations unit within the Senate Planetary Intelligence Network.[4] This team was short-lived, however.[5] Not long after the Battle of Yavin, the Rebel Alliance's historian corps assigned Voren Na'al to document the lives and actions of the Heroes,[6] a task that he carried out with enthusiasm through the Battles of Hoth, Endor, Bakura, and beyond.[7][8][1]

Behind the scenes

The Marvel Star Wars series often referred to this group of characters as the "Star Warriors."
