The hilt of Luke Skywalker's green lightsaber featured a belt ring attached to the pommel.
Belt rings were a lightsaber component that allowed the weapon to be attached to the wearer's belt.[1]
History
Belt-rings were commonly affixed at the base of the hilt, from which the lightsaber would hang with its blade emitter facing downward, such as those of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker. However, Darth Vader's lightsaber often had one positioned on its emitter shroud, and thus hanged facing upward.[2]
Behind the scenes
For the original trilogy of Star Wars films, a belt-hanger system was derived by mounting D-ring assemblies to the lightsaber props, often with rivets or screws.[3] In the prequel trilogy, this system was dropped in favor of using Covertec wheels affixed to the hilts for belt attachment,[3] although their in-universe role would be assigned to other functions, such as charging ports[4] or power indicators.[5]
