- "He ran the Knights of Ren before you came along. Before Bedat."
"So he's the one who Bedat killed, before I killed him and got you out of that cell."
"Not…exactly." - ―Cardo and Tava Ren
Bedat was an individual known to the group of dark-side practitioners known as the Knights of Ren. After the group was abandoned by their leader Kylo Ren[2] at some point no earlier than 28 ABY,[1] the Knights came into contact with Bedat.[2] By 34 ABY,[1] Bedat had locked the Knights in a cell, but was killed by the human female Tava Ren, who became the Knights new leader.[3]
That year,[1] after the Knights ditched Tava during a raid, she asked them why they had become the type to run in hot situations. After Ap'lek told her it was because of Kylo Ren, Tava questioned who that was. In response, Cardo told her that he was their former leader before her time and also before Bedat, leading Tava to assume Bedat had killed Kylo before she then killed Bedat himself. Cardo noted to Tava that was not exactly the case, before informing her of their time under Kylo and how it ended.[2]

Notes and references
- ↑ 1.0 1.1 1.2 1.3 Legacy of Vader 8 establishes that Bedat died before its events but also after Kylo Ren became the leader of the Knights of Ren. Star Wars: Timelines dates Kylo Ren becoming the Knights leader to 28 ABY, while the events of Legacy of Vader 8 take place in 34 ABY per the reasoning here. Therefore, Bedat must have passed away between 28 ABY and 34 ABY.
