The title of this article is conjectural.

Although this article is based on official information from the Star Wars Legends continuity, the actual name of this subject is pure conjecture.

The Battle of Gaerboud IV was a space battle between the Alliance to Restore the Republic and the Galactic Empire that commenced when Rebel snubfighters attempted to interdict the deployment of TIE/ad starfighters from the Deep Space Manufacturing Facility Sentinel to the Imperial-class Star Destroyer Dauntless.

The Battle

A force of Rebel Alliance T-65 X-wing starfighters led by Rogue Squadron emerged from hyperspace near Gaerboud IV and proceeded to attack TIE/ad starfighters, or TIE Avengers, as they were ferried by unskilled workers from the Sentinel to the Imperial Star Destroyer Dauntless, which was on-site to take stock of a new order of the elite craft.

The Dauntless immediately deployed TIE interceptors and bombers to meet the Rebel threat. These escort fighters proved far more of a threat to the X-wings than did the TIE Avengers, which were barely capable of jinking to avoid starfighter attack. As in the previous two battles of Operation: Quick Strike, a small number of Blue Squadron's A-wings were available to provide support to the Rebel squadrons if needed. For the Galactic Empire, a flight group of Assault Gunboats remained on standby.

However, should enough TIE Avengers manage to enter the hangar bay of The Dauntless, the Rebels would, in a possible attempt at desperation would send in a Nebulon-B frigate called the Rehz'nor which would launch X-wings and Y- wings which would commence torpedo runs on the Dauntless in an attempt to destroy it.

Behind the scenes

As players can participate in the mission "Interdiction of Starfighter Deployment" in the computer game Star Wars: X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter on either the Rebel or the Imperial side—both sides have conflicting mission objectives—and victory is not essential to access the next set of missions, the battle itself is considered canon but the canon outcome is unknown.

The ships listed in this article are those found in the battle Operation: Quick Strike, using the default craft assigned to the player.

  2. The game Star Wars: X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter and its expansion Balance of Power Campaigns do not provide any information about their timeline other than it takes place during the Galactic Civil War between the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance (2 BBY4 ABY). Nevertheless, some clues permit to place the game and its expansion around 3 ABY. X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter shows the Empire making extensive use of TIE/ad starfighters. The previous game of the series, Star Wars: TIE Fighter, established that the TIE/ad starfighter was introduced during the Sepan campaign (which is set in 3 ABY per the reasoning here). We can conclude that the game is set between 3 ABY and 4 ABY. Moreover, the most advanced Imperial starfighters from Star Wars: TIE Fighter (the TIE/d "Defender" starfighter and the Missile Boat) were not present in X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter, suggesting that the game takes place before their introduction, also dated to 3 ABY as the entire TIE Fighter game is set in 3 ABY (per the reasoning here).
