The battle near the Ytha'ac Cluster was a space battle between the Alliance to Restore the Republic and the Galactic Empire. It took place near the Ytha'ac Cluster, an asteroid cluster located within the Ytha'ac system.
The Battle
Airam arms smugglers contacted the Rebel Alliance with an offer to transfer stolen Imperial munitions to rebel forces near the Ytha'ac Cluster. Upon arriving at the site of the cargo transfer, though, the rebels realized that the Empire had already appeared on the scene. The presence of two Gamma-class ATR-6 assault transports, as well as Assault Gunboats armed with ion cannons, alerted the Rebels that the Imperial interlopers intended to recapture the munitions from the Airam cargo ferries, which arrived on-scene shortly thereafter.
As at the Battle of Tortali IV, a limited number of A-wings from Blue Squadron could have entered the battle if the rebel combatants judged it to be proceeding poorly and decided they needed backup. Similarly, a mere handful of new TIE Avengers could have reinforced the Imperial ambush force.
Behind the scenes
As players can participate in the mission "Ambush Arms Smugglers near Ytha'ac Cluster" in the computer game Star Wars: X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter on either the Rebel or the Imperial side—both sides have conflicting mission objectives—and victory is not essential to access the next set of missions, the battle itself is considered canon but the canon outcome is unknown.
The ships listed in this article are those found in the battle Operation: Quick Strike, using the default craft assigned to the player.
The mission title in X-wing vs. TIE Fighter is unusual in that it appears to be written from an in-universe Imperial point of view, while Operation: Quick Strike is framed as a Rebel Alliance operation.

- ↑ The game Star Wars: X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter and its expansion Balance of Power Campaigns do not provide any information about their timeline other than it takes place during the Galactic Civil War between the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance (2 BBY ― 4 ABY). Nevertheless, some clues permit to place the game and its expansion around 3 ABY. X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter shows the Empire making extensive use of TIE/ad starfighters. The previous game of the series, Star Wars: TIE Fighter, established that the TIE/ad starfighter was introduced during the Sepan campaign (which is set in 3 ABY per the reasoning here). We can conclude that the game is set between 3 ABY and 4 ABY. Moreover, the most advanced Imperial starfighters from Star Wars: TIE Fighter (the TIE/d "Defender" starfighter and the Missile Boat) were not present in X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter, suggesting that the game takes place before their introduction, also dated to 3 ABY as the entire TIE Fighter game is set in 3 ABY (per the reasoning here).
