«Three hundred years ago, the Clarr defeated a numerically superior Irizi force using this exact maneuver to drift one of their warships in close. It was a Clarr triumph, and a blood will certainly be familiar with it.»
Senior Aide Stybla'ppin'cykok, to Syndic Mitth'ras'safis and Mid Commander Mitth'raw'nuru[2]

In 339 BBY,[1] the Chiss Ascendancy's Clarr family defeated a numerically superior Irizi family force by disabling one of their warships' engines and comm and putting the vessel in a long, elliptical orbit that took it near the Irizi force. Members of the Clarr family that held the rank of blood were familiar with the battle.[2]

Behind the scenes

The battle was mentioned in the flashbacks of the 2021 novel Thrawn Ascendancy: Lesser Evil, the final installment in Timothy Zahn's Star Wars: The Ascendancy Trilogy.[2]

  1. 1.0 1.1 The flashbacks of Thrawn Ascendancy: Lesser Evil take place before the main events of Thrawn Ascendancy: Chaos Rising, which take place in 19 BBY per Star Wars: Timelines. As Lesser Evil's flashbacks establish that the battle took place "three hundred twenty years ago," it must have taken place in 339 BBY.
