- "I can feel the power of the pure spirit resonating in this orb."
- ―Mother Talzin
The Bardottan Sphere was an orb-shaped Force artifact that functioned as a battery, capturing and storing Force energy stolen from living beings. When certain mystical and gravitational effects were applied, the Sphere could focus its captured energy into a Force wielder.
Description
- "Humbah! Looganah! Humbah! Looganah! Disjenck! Now shall the demon of war, Malmourral, be sated. Now shall the Frangawl clan steal your essence!"
- ―Peteen uses the Sphere in a sacrificial ritual
Large, crystalline, and milkily transparent, the Bardottan Sphere was neither mechanical nor alive, its color dependent on the light it reflected. Inert until attuned to a Force-sensitive being, the Sphere would glow when activated, directed to form a link with a nearby target by its user. The Sphere could target any living creature. Once targeted, the Sphere cut off the victim's connection to the Living Force and drained it until nothing but a lifeless husk remained.[2]
Some theorized that the Sphere was an anti-Force artifact that, when inert, remained cut off from the universe and reflected the Force around it. These theorists further believed that the Sphere contained a sort of "Force vacuum" that was a natural attractor of the Force when active. More than a tool of execution, the Sphere acted as a reservoir, storing what it had stolen for a time to be tapped into to amplify numerous Force powers by the Nightsisters.[2]
History
Either created or discovered by the Nightsisters of Dathomir, the Sphere's origins remained unknown, although its absence from historical record suggested that it was constructed by the Nightsisters or their allies shortly preceding the kidnapping of Queen Julia.[2]
In 19 BBY,[4] it was used by members of the Frangawl Cult to drain the Living Force from kidnapped members of the Dagoyan Order on the planet Bardotta.[3] Later, the Nightsister Mother Talzin attempted to use the Bardottan Sphere and the captive Queen Julia as part of a ritual on Zardossa Stix to increase her Force powers. Talzin and the Frangawl Cult were thwarted by the Jedi Master Mace Windu and the Gungan Junior Representative Jar Jar Binks.[1]
Exhaustive record searches turned up no trace of the Sphere before or after the incident.[2] During the Imperial Era, the Imperial officer Zaaryn tried to sell information about the sphere to the former Sith Lord Maul,[5] the son of Talzin.[6]
