The BX-23 Probe Droid was a model of floating cube-shaped droid available during the Third Galactic War between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire.[2] One such droid was present on the moon Yavin 4[1] during or after 3626 BBY.[3] BX-23 Probe Droids were plated in a green color with silver plating around most of the edges. The droid had a photoreceptor on the center of one of its side faces and three holoprojectors, one below its photoreceptor, one on its right side, and one on its top face. The droid model also had two vents on its left face and a periscope on its top face.[1]
The P1-XL droid was identical in shape to the BX-23 Probe Droid, but with orange plating.[4]
Behind the scenes
On May 3, 2023, the BX-23 was announced to appear[1] in the 2021 expansion Legacy of the Sith to BioWare's 2011 massively multiplayer online role-playing game, Star Wars: The Old Republic.[5] The droid was made available as a minipet in honor of Star Wars day, May 4, and was gifted to players who logged in between May 4 and May 18 of that year.[1]
The pet shares its model with P1-XL, the minipet for Star Wars day 2022.[4]

Charles Boyd on Forums: "Dear Story Team, What Year Are We Currently In?" (1) on The Old Republic's official website (backup link) mentions that the events of Star Wars: The Old Republic: Onslaught transition into 3626 BBY, meaning the subsequent expansion Legacy of the Sith must take place sometime afterward.
