"Launch the attack."
―Darth Vader[1]

The attack on Jabiim, or the Jabiim incident, was an attack conducted by the Galactic Empire on the base of the Hidden Path on the planet Jabiim. The assault was led by Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Vader from orbit aboard the Imperial I-class Star Destroyer Devastator, while the ground assault was commanded by the newly-promoted Grand Inquisitor, the Third Sister. In truth, she intended to betray Vader to avenge her class of Jedi Initiates, whom Vader had slain years earlier during the siege of the Jedi Temple, but the Sith Lord was well aware of her planned treachery. The real Grand Inquisitor was alive and with Vader, waiting for a chance to reveal himself to the Third Sister.

The assault occurred as part of the Imperial hunt for the Path, but also the hunt for surviving Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi. With the sacrifice of several Path members, including Kenobi's new close ally Tala Durith, Kenobi and the Path were able to escape after Vader landed. The Third Sister took that as her moment to strike, but she was easily struck down and left for dead by Vader and the Grand Inquisitor. Vader then commanded the Devastator to chase down the Path's escape ship, but he focused solely on Kenobi's presence aboard instead of the wider rebel group.

Led to the planet via a tracking device planted on Princess of Alderaan Leia Organa's toy droid L0-LA59, the ground assault—led by the Third Sister after the Sith Lord Darth Vader promoted her to be the Grand Inquisitor—had the main objective of hunting down and capturing Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, and a secondary objective of capturing or eliminating all present members of the Path. As the Third Sister commanded the ground attack of multiple stormtrooper squads, Vader remained aboard the Devastator in orbit.[1]

During the assault, the Path was trapped in the base by L0-LA59, who was being controlled by the Galactic Empire via a restraining bolt. While fortifying and preparing to evacuate, Kenobi stalled for time by attempting to convince the Third Sister to help him defeat Vader, then surrendering himself. Kenobi later escaped and boarded a JT-731 Broadhorn transport alongside the other members of the Path, while Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Vader Force pulled another transport.[1]

"Hello Third Sister. Revenge does wonders for the will to live, don't you think? Your rage was useful. Now it is tiresome. We will leave you where we found you. In the gutter, where you belong. Goodbye… Grand Inquisitor."

The Third Sister then attempted to assassinate Vader, only for him to anticipate her strike and engage her in a "lightsaber duel," during which Vader effortlessly deflected her attacks without even igniting his own lightsaber. Eventually, Vader would claim half of the Third Sister's lightsaber and used it to overwhelm her, gravely wounding her with the same stabbing attack he had used against her as a Jedi Initiate. Revealing all along he had known she was trying to overthrow him to avenge his attack on the Jedi in her youth, Vader was soon joined by the Grand Inquisitor, who reclaimed his title and goodbye to the Third Sister as someone who was no longer of use to the Empire.[1]

After Vader, the Grand Inquisitor, and the remaining troopers departed, she then eyed Kenobi's holoprojector and intercepted Viceroy Bail Prestor Organa's message, in which he discussed Luke Skywalker,[1] boy living on the Outer Rim planet Tatooine who was, in secret, Vader's own son.[5] Armed with the knowledge that the boy was of some importance, the Third Sister would depart from Jabiim and made her way to Tatooine, intending to murder Skywalker as a new way to enact her revenge.[3]

Aboard Roken's ship, Kenobi and Leia sat among the refugees. Roken told them that the ship's hyperdrive was not working and that the Empire was still pursuing them. Kenobi realized his holoprojector was missing but told Roken that nothing was wrong.[1] The Devastator chased after the ship and fired upon it until Kenobi, realizing that Vader would prioritize his hunt for him instead of going after the Path, fled from the freighter aboard an escape craft, escaping to a barren moon that Vader followed him to.[3] Following the attack on Jabiim's Path safe house and a subsequent[6] raid on The Archive, a Path base on the moon Jedha,[7] Jedi Knight Cal Kestis and Nightsister Merrin prepared to use the hidden planet Tanalorr as a new home for the Path.[6]
