During the era of the New Republic, the First Order launched an attack on the iron planet Demir in the Unknown Regions.[1]
The battle
Heavy losses
First Order and Demirian forces meet face to face in battle.
On the iron planet Demir, First Order stormtroopers, an AT-ST and TIE/sf space superiority fighters engaged Demirian warriors and ships. Captain Phasma led the stormtroopers into battle, taking down some of the Demirians. Phasma then told the stormtroopers that the AT-ST would clear the path to the Demirian stronghold. She then ordered the stormtroopers to be ready and not hesitate. Phasma then delivered a speech to the troops, stating they were another gun that she held. She went on to tell them that if their aim was not true, if the falter, they were no longer worthy of being held in her hand and no longer worthy to serve the First Order.[1]
A stormtrooper warned Phasma about an incoming Demirian ship, causing Phasma to order the stormtroopers to get down as the ship was charging up to fire. The ship released a massive blast that destroyed the AT-ST and sent the stormtroopers to the ground. KM-8713 woke up and removed their helmet. They notice DB-7197, a trooper they went through basic training with, on the ground and helped him get up. As many of the injured troopers began to get up, KM-8713 reassured DB-7197 that they started this together and they would not leave him behind. However, Phasma then told KM-8713 to leave DB-7197 behind, although KM-8713 insisted that he would not slow them down. Phasma told the trooper that she had ordered them to leave him behind, but before she could finish, KM-8713 warned her of an ambushing Demirian. KM-8713 eliminated the Demirian with their F-11D blaster rifle, but the falling Demirian dropped a thermal detonator. Phasma grabbed DB-7197 and threw im on the thermal detonator as KM-8713 exclaimed in horror. The trooper's body covered the thermal detonator as it exploded, allowing Phasma and KM-8713 to survive the explosion. Phasma then informed KM-8713 they were pulling out to regroup, adding that KM-8713 will report to her command shuttle to discuss what occurred in the battle.[1]
Successful assault
Onboard Phasma's shuttle, she promoted KM-8713 to lieutenant because she saw some of herself in the trooper and informed the new lieutenant that the Demirian base held strategic importance to the First Order, so they would take it rather than destroy it. Outside the Demirian stronghold at dawn, with KM-8713 at her side, Phasma told her stormtroopers that the field would be their victory ground and that they will seize control of the stronghold, no matter what came out of its doors. She then gave command to KM-8713, who had the troops charge. As the Demirian stronghold's doors open, KM-8713 told the troopers to fire. The Demirians roll out their vehicles and fire large energy bolts that decimated the stormtroopers. A stormtrooper informed KM-8713 that they have multiple casualties and wounded. Another stormtrooper stated they could not possibly penetrate the Demirian vehicles' armor. KM-8713 told the stormtroopers to keep firing. KM-8713 kept firing themselves as they chant about the glory of the First Order. The lieutenant then looked back to see Phasma withdrawing from the battlefield. KM-8713 followed her and asked if something was wrong. Phasma informed them that nothing was wrong as they have drawn out the enemy, and then ordered the lieutenant to return to the fighting, but they insist that the stormtroopers needed her help. Phasma repeated her order for KM-8713 to return to the fighting. KM-8713 then heard TIE fighters and was surprised to seem them flying above.[1]
The TIE fighters ravage the battlefield, killing all in the vicinity, including the stormtroopers, leaving KM-8713 horrified, who then called for Phasma to call the TIEs off. KM-8713 then recalled what Phasma told them about calculated sacrifices, realizing Phasma used the other stormtroopers to open the Demirian stronghold and pull the enemy into the open. Phasma confirmed this and says that she had fought bravely and survived. KM-8713 then stated the other troopers would hear of Phasma's betrayal, believing it was their chance to rise in the ranks of the First Order. KM-8713 then turned on Phasma, calling her a coward and shooting her. Phasma's blaster flew out of her hands, but she stayed on her feet. Phasma informed KM-8713 to be careful as her armor was worth far more than the lieutenant's life, and began wrestling with KM-8713, telling them she was not a coward. Phasma then grabbed KM-8713's blaster and states she lead as all great leaders do-behind a shield of patriotic idiots. Phasma then shot KM-8713 in the chest with their own blaster. A dying KM-8713 pleaded with Phasma to not leave them to die. As Phasma walked away, she said she could not see her goal if she was looking over her shoulder. As TIE fighters fly ahead, Phasma left the battlefield of fallen stormtroopers and Demirian vehicles behind, noting KM-8713 was just another nameless, fallen gun.[1]

The attack on Demir appeared in the one-shot comic Age of Resistance - Captain Phasma 1, published by Marvel Comics[1] on July 10, 2019.[2] The comic was written by Tom Taylor and illustrated by Leonard Kirk.[1]
