Ascendant Record Keeper

Ascendant Record Keeper was a position in the Ascendant[1] cult[3] that were active centuries[4] before 3 BBY,[2] specifically within the Bar'leth Group that operated[1] out of the cult's main temple, the Tomb of the Spark Eternal, on[3] the Core Worlds planet[5] Bar'leth. The Trandoshan[1] Ghess[4] held the position and was tasked with the cult's documentation, which they wanted to sound mysterious and exciting to ensure that it would be read. Ghess was also allowed by Miril—a Chadra-Fan co-founder of the Ascendant—to come up with names for everything within the group. Eventually, the Darkseekers—a group of Sith that hunted threats to themselves[1]—wiped out the Ascendant at the temple on Bar'leth, including Ghess[4] and the position they held.[2]

Behind the scenes

The position of Ascendant Record Keeper first appeared, albeit unidentified, in flashbacks in the twenty-second issue of the 2020 comic series Star Wars: Doctor Aphra. The issue was written by Alyssa Wong, illustrated by Natacha Bustos and Minkyu Jung, and published by Marvel Comics[4] on July 27, 2022.[6] It was later identified in the twenty-ninth issue, also written by Wong, illustrated by Bustos, and published by Marvel[1] on February 22, 2023.[7]

The flashbacks also establish that the Ascendant was destroyed by that time, and therefore the Ascendant Record Keeper position must have been abolished by the same point.
