An arcade machine was a type of device that allow an individual to play arcade games and could be found in cantinas and arcade halls across the galaxy. There controls were designed to accommodate a variety of species with different body sizes and hand types.[2]

Behind the scenes

Arcade machines first appeared in the current Star Wars canon in part two of the two-part episode "The Recruit,"[3] the first episode of the first season of the animated television series Star Wars Resistance, which aired on October 7, 2018.[4]

Arcade machines later appeared as optional activities in the 2024 video game Star Wars Outlaws, developed by Massive Entertainment and published by Ubisoft. Concept art for the arcade machines that appeared in Star Wars Outlaws was done by Adrien Girod[5] and later was later published in the 2025 reference book The Art of Star Wars: Outlaws. The design was inspired by real-life arcade machines with the added element of needing to support a variety of species with different hand shapes and body types.[2] The machine was realized in the game was done by Level Artist Julien Payen, with visual effects done by Simon Romain and the machine's UI design done by Yoann Carré under UI lead Séverine Mastroleonardo.[6]
