The Anselmi–Nautolan war was a war that was fought between the Anselmi and the Nautolans during the Republic Era.[1] Around 33 BBY,[2] an uneasy peace had been established[3] and a peace treaty was crafted. As a gesture of support, Supreme Chancellor Finis Valorum offered the invaluable Hope of Glee Anselm statue—a relic crafted under the united Anselmi and Nautolan peoples in the past—to both species, hoping the old symbol of peace could help establish a new period of cooperation.[1] In a heist secretly engineered by[3] Count Dooku[4] and Nautolan Ambassador Fiarok, a grouping of Nautolan[3] extremists stole the statue during a peace ceremony, reigniting tensions.[1] The revelation that Fiarok was behind the heist broke down the peace process and[3] reopened[1] the war. The incident was a major political blow to Valorum,[3] who would be removed from office in a Vote of No Confidence[5] a few months later[2][6] in 32 BBY.[7]
