"Do you recognize it?"
"The style of carving is not unlike the ancient Kubaz. But that system is so distant my first assumption would be that the similarity is a coincidence. Furthermore, the Kubaz don't have any insect gods, so far as I know."
―Orla Jareni and Cohmac Vitus[1]

Ancient Kubaz was a writing system used by the Kubaz species that had a distinct carving style.[1] In 232 BBY,[2] when on the Amaxine station, a group of Jedi including the Jedi Master Cohmac Vitus discovered a set of binding statues with ancient inscriptions in an unfamiliar script. When asked by the Wayseeker Orla Jareni if he recognized the script, Vitus shook his head and indicated the inscriptions were not dissimilar to ancient Kubaz. The Jedi Master then added that because the system where the Kubaz resided[1]—the Ku'Bakai system[3]—was so distant, and because he was not aware of the species having an insect god, he considered the similarity a coincidence.[1]

Behind the scenes

Ancient Kubaz was mentioned in the 2021 young-adult novel The High Republic: Into the Dark, written by Claudia Gray as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[1] Phase I.[4]
