An alternate form of Aurebesh numerals was used in the galaxy. Completely different from regular Aurebesh, the numbers were used on the excursion vehicle Dustskimmer, in transponder code profiles for starships, on a map of destinations on the subtram in the Coruscant underworld, and on certain galactic maps.

Description

The numerals were completely different from regular Aurebesh numbers, using an alternate numerical system based on dots and lines, with numerals for 0 through 16 being represented.[3]

History

"1st class"

"1st class"

In approximately 3963 BBY, a sign over an entrance to the excursion vehicle Dustskimmer on Metellos 3 said "1ST CLASS", with the number 1 written in this font.[1]

These numbers were known to be used in transponder code profiles for starships,[3] and on some maps of the galaxy.[4] They also appeared on a map of destinations on the subtram in the Coruscant underworld.[2]

The hull of the modified TIE Advanced x1 known as Calrissian Runner featured Aurebesh text, with the numerals displayed in this typeface: "WS 2", "PN 8", "SI GN 06" and "IBR 54".[5]

Behind the scenes

"I can't recall which came first, Stock Ships or Gamemaster Screen Revised, but I worked on both and both have that chart."

This alternate numerical system first appeared in a graphic called "Current transponder code profile" in Platt's Starport Guide, a supplement to the Star Wars roleplaying game by West End Games, published in February 1995.[3] The same graph subsequently appeared in the roleplaying supplements Star Wars Gamemaster Screen, Revised[7] and Stock Ships.[8]

The alternate numerals also appear on a map of destinations on the subtram in the Coruscant Underworld, created for the Star Wars: The Clone Wars episode "To Catch a Jedi."[2] However, although the map does appear on-screen in the episode, it is too far away to decipher.[9]
