The Aeon Ranger was a highly modified YG-4210 transport built by the Corellian Engineering Corporation.[1]
Originally built centries before the Galactic Civil War, the ship's hull had been refitted many times. In essence, it was made up of the main body of a YG-4210 attached to the engine housings from a YG-5000, but incorporated parts scrounged from countless different ships and scrapyards.[1]
This was a small ship, just 24 meters long, and it was not fast, but its crew of four were accommodated in old-fashioned comfort, and it had a powerful modern sensor suite. Cargo capacity was limited, at just ten metric tons, but it could berth as many as a dozen passengers.[1]
Armament consisted of a pair of blasters in a mounting on the starboard side of the bow, and twin ion cannons in a turret on the top of the hull, which were fairly typical weapons for the type, and, more unusually, a single, rear-firing heavy concussion missile.[1]
The ship characterised the adaptability of the YG-series to which it belonged. The lineage included freighters. passenger transports and exploration scouts, and individual vessels were designed to be further customised while under construction to suit their owner's specific needs, and then refited and repurposed as required.[1] The YG-4210 had originally been designed specifically for exploration, but most surviving ships of the class eventually became small freighters.[2]
The exact role for which this particular ship was built was forgotten over the centuries, and in its mature configuration, it was a balanced design that could serve as a patrol vessel, a military reconnaissance craft, a bounty-hunting ship, or a passenger transport - and in its long history, it had performed most of those roles at one time or another.[1]
