"Adagio" is a strings-only concert piece composed by John Williams for the 2015 sequel trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens. The tragic piece includes hints to Kylo Ren's theme.[1]
After Gustavo Dudamel, having been invited by John Williams, conducted a recording for The Force Awakens, Williams went on to conduct an adagio. When Dudamel asked what it was, Williams replied that he wrote the piece on the previous night as additional music was required for a scene requested by director J.J. Abrams. Dudamel expressed his love for the piece, and so Williams made a concert adaptation of it. "Adagio" premiered on March 4, 2018, at the Palacio de Bellas Artes, Mexico City.[2]
