History
Mon Calamari battle baton was a simple energy weapon in the shape of a ribbed scepter. They were wielded as a status symbol by Mon Calamari officers.[1]
During the Clone Wars Second Battle of Mon Calamari, Captain Gial Ackbar used a Mon Calamari battle baton while leading the Mon Calamari Guard. He used the weapon as both a baton and a blaster as he led the Guard and protected Prince Lee-Char.[2]
Behind the scenes
The baton that Ackbar holds in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars episodes "Water War" and "Prisoners" is an homage to his 1983 action figure that came with such an accessory. Though it was not originally intended to be a weapon, the episodic director Danny Keller vividly remembered pretending it was a blaster, so it was worked into the show.[3]
