Ablative plating was an enhancement that increased the protection capabilities of armor against many types of damage, particularly from electrical sources. However, the added safegaurd impaired the movement of the wearer to some degree. The Mark I, II, III, & IV versions in turn allowed for a considerable increase in protection without further diminishing movement.
