Description
The A95 Stingbeam was shaped like a sabacc card (pictured).
The A95 Stingbeam was an incredibly small, lightweight blaster shaped like a sabacc card,[1] which could be hexagonal[2] or rectangular in shape.[3] It was exotic and easy to conceal but had an effective range of only around an arm's length.[1]
Rather than using a Galven-pattern barrel like most blasters, blaster energy was channeled along and discharged from a long, thin needle that protruded from between the user's fingers. The weapon possessed a stun setting.[1]
History
Czerka Arms designed and produced the A95 Stingbeam, which cost 400 credits and competed in the niche microblaster market. However, its reimagined design differentiated it from microblasters, which generally conformed to the basic idea of a blaster. Assassins made use of A95 Stingbeams during the height of the Clone Wars, using them to target Galactic Republic or Confederacy of Independent Systems senators at formal events. The weapon was also popular with grifters and con artists, as well as private security personnel, the latter of whom preferred the reduced risk of collateral damage caused by the Stingbeam's short range.[1]
Behind the scenes
In the current Star Wars canon, the A95 Stingbeam was mentioned in Gadgets and Gear, a 2019 Star Wars Roleplaying supplement released by Fantasy Flight Games.[1] The weapon originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it was mentioned in the 2015 Star Wars Roleplaying supplement Fly Casual.[4]
