the 4x-Phantom Short-Range Sensor Jammer was a model of sensor jammer produced by Miradyne Limited. The 4x-Phantom was primary installed on the RZ-1 A-wing interceptors deployed by the Alliance to Restore the Republic.
Description
The 4x-Phantom Short-Range Sensor Jammer was a sensor jammer manufactured by Miradyne Limited for use on starfighters like the RZ-1 A-wing interceptor.[1]
The main component of the 4x-Phantom is a dedicated energy receptor projector. It absorbed and blocked incoming long-range sensor pulses which effectively hid the fighter during its approach to a target. During combat, the jammer engaged a full-spectrum distortion projector which blocked all sensors and targeting computers using broadband emissions.[1]
The 4x-Phantom incorporated a row of static discharge panels that were capable of scrambling communications and subspace frequencies, cutting off comm traffic for all ships in the immediate area.[1]
History
Alliance A-wing squadrons employed the 4x-Phantom to assist in their primary mission profile; hit and run strikes against freighters and other similar vessels. A target's distress signal could be completely blocked by A-wings overlapping their sensor jammers. A-wing squadrons using the 4x-Phantom in battle planned breaks in the communications jamming ahead of the engagement to allow for their own inter-unit comms.[1]
