PC Pal was released in 1998.
This learning computer shipped with a set of nine (9) two-sided "diskettes" which can be stored in a special compartment on the top half of the computer (right side) or inserted, one at a time, into a slot/reader on the bottom half (right side) of the computer. The diskettes are not, of course, real floppy disks despite notable similarity with respect to size, shape, and visual styling.
Each of the diskettes has a sequence of one or more pill-shaped cut-outs in them that is used in conjunction with a simple optical reader mechanism to select an activity from a set of pre-programmed activities.
Like many of it's contemporaries, this system could be powered by inserting 4x C batteries into the battery compartment on the back of the system.
