Phonics from A to Z! Animated, also known as Animated Alphabet Desk in the U.K., was released in 2000. It is the sequel to Little Smart Phonics from A to Z!.
Activities
- Learn the Letters - This activity teaches the names and phonetic sounds of the 26 letters of the alphabet. Press a letter button to hear the name of the letter, its phonetic sound, and an example of a word that starts with that sound. For the vowels (A, E, I, O, U), the short and long sounds will be given. For the consonants C and G, the hard and soft sounds will be given.
- Before & After - This activity teaches the order of the 26 letters of the alphabet. You will be asked to find the letter that comes before or after another letter.
- Learn the Words - Press a letter button the first time to hear the top word sounded out and pronounced. Press a letter button the second time to hear the bottom word sounded out and pronounced.
- Find It - You will be asked one of three question types: find the letter by its name or sound, or find the object by its name.
- Spelling - You will be asked to spell a word. If you press a letter that doesn’t follow the progression of the spelling, it will be marked wrong.
- Vowels - You will be asked to find the vowel(s) in a word.
- Word Builder - Press three letters to create your own three-letter word. If you make a word in the word list, the word will be sounded out. If you make a name, abbreviation, or a word not in the word list, it tells you it is a “nice creation”. If you attempt to spell a curse word, it would halt that.
- Music Box - 26 melodies are available for your listening pleasure. Press a letter button to listen to a melody. An animation that goes with the melody will appear on the LCD screen.
