Zero-point energy, also known as null-point energy or vacuum energy, was the lowest possible energy that a quantum mechanical physical system could have.

Zero-point energy was also known as null-point energy, and was utilized in the power source of the experimental Star Destroyer Battle Lance.

Timothy Zahn used this to explain away the criticism that X-wings fly like atmospheric fighters—banking and turning—when the vacuum of space wouldn't allow that. He assumed that S-foils meant space-foils and assumed they were pressing against the universe's vacuum energy, sometimes called zero-point energy.
