Yunkor IX was an astronomical object[3] in the Yunkor system,[1] a part of the Jjannex sector[2] in the Western Reaches portion of the Outer Rim Territories.[1] During the reign of the Galactic Empire, a TIE staging area was located near the astronomical object. It was used to resupply battle-depleted Imperial forces and nearby capital ships.[3]
In 1 ABY,[4] Lieutenant Keyan Farlander, a rebel pilot, was dispatched to the staging area in a B-wing starfighter in order to destroy the cargo containers and parked TIE starfighters there. Farlander destroyed all of his targets before jumping into hyperspace.[3]
Behind the scenes
Yunkor IX was first mentioned in the Tour of Duty: B-Wing expansion to Totally Games' video game Star Wars: X-Wing.[5] X-Wing was released in February 1993,[6] while the expansion released in the fall of that year.[7] The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Yunkor system, and therefore Yunkor IX, in grid square K-19.[1] The description of the B-wing starfighter in the video game Star Wars Galaxies: Jump to Lightspeed[8] as well as "B-Wing," a[9] September 10, 2004[10] article published on the Star Wars Galaxies website, erroneously state that the TIE staging area was located on Yunkor IX.[8][9]

- ↑ The attack on a TIE staging area is featured in Star Wars: X-Wing Tour of Duty: B-Wing, which is set after Star Wars: X-Wing Tour of Duty: Imperial Pursuit. The New Essential Chronology establishes that Operation Ram's Head (in Imperial Pursuit) took place approximately one year after the Battle of Yavin, which the book places in 0 BBY. Thus, the attack on a TIE staging area must take place as early as 1 ABY. The attack on a TIE staging area is also mentioned in Star Wars Galaxies: Jump to Lightspeed. Star Wars Galaxies is also set in 1 ABY (per the reasoning here) so the attack on a TIE staging area must take place as late as 1 ABY.
