Quick summary
The crew of the Ghost travels to Geonosis after hearing reports that something was being constructed in orbit around the planet. When they board an orbital construction platform, they learn that they have been lured into a trap set by Agent Kallus. Most of the crew is able to escape aboard the Ghost, but Zeb and Agent Kallus are stranded on one of the moons of Geonosis after crashing in an escape pod. They work together in order to survive the moon's harsh conditions, and along the way learn more about the causes they each support.
Trivia
Every Star Wars Rebels episode is chock full of nods and connections to other canon stories and Star Wars Legends. Here's what we found in 'The Honorable Ones:'
- Geonosis was first introduced in Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones. It was the location of the First Battle of Geonosis, the event that sparked the Clone Wars. The planet was later revisited in the television series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which depicted the Second Battle of Geonosis in its second season.
- The rebels were lured to Geonosis on reports that something was being built in orbit. Though they do not learn what it was in the episode, this is very likely a reference to the Death Star. The 2014 novel Tarkin revealed that the early days of the Death Star's construction took place over Geonosis, before the Empire moved it elsewhere. The Star Wars Rebels episode "Breaking Ranks" also had a potential nod to the Death Star, when the rebels tracked a shipment of a giant kyber crystal presumably used to power the superlaser aboard the Death Star.
- Orbiting Geonosis is a set of construction platforms in the shape of spheres. These platforms were inspired by designs by Ralph McQuarrie made for Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi. The artwork depicted multiple Death Stars under construction. That design was also used in Star Wars Rebels for the Imperial complex in Lothal's Capital City.
- The rebels learn that the population of Geonosis has been wiped out. This is the first chronological reference to the sterilization of Geonosis, an event first referenced in the 2015 comic book Darth Vader 4.
- Agent Kallus reveals that while he originally took credit for the siege of Lasan, there is more to the story and that, in his mind, he was just doing his duty. He originally claimed credit for the planet's fall in the episode "Droids in Distress."
- Kallus says that he was once stationed on Onderon and encountered a Lasat mercenary who worked for Saw Gerrera. Saw appeared in The Clone Wars episodes "A War on Two Fronts," "Front Runners," "The Soft War," and "Tipping Points," which depicted the Onderonian Civil War. His sister, Steela Gerrera, was the leader of the Onderon rebels, which fought against the Confederacy of Independent Systems. The 2015 reference book Ultimate Star Wars revealed that Saw became a key figure in the early rebellion against the Empire.
- The ice creature, known as a bonzami, was named after zambonis, machines that clean the ice at ice rinks. The creature's design was inspired by snowplows.
