Trivia
Every Star Wars Rebels episode is chock full of nods and connections to other canon stories and Star Wars Legends. Here's what we found in 'Homecoming:'
- Cham Syndulla, Numa, and Gobi Glie were all introduced in the first season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Numa was featured in the episode "Innocents of Ryloth" as a young girl who is protected by the clone troopers Waxer and Boil. Cham and Gobi both fought in the Battle of Ryloth in "Liberty on Ryloth," when the Twi'lek Resistance and the Grand Army of the Republic liberated Ryloth from the Separatist Alliance. Cham and Gobi were also featured in the prequel episode "Supply Lines," showing an earlier battle in the occupation of Ryloth.
- Cham and Gobi's story continued in the 2015 novel Lords of the Sith, by Paul S. Kemp. In the novel, Cham leads leads the Free Ryloth Movement in an unsuccessful effort to assassinate Darth Sidious and Darth Vader on Ryloth.
- Cham was indirectly referenced in the 2014 novel A New Dawn, when Hera Syndulla recalls her father telling her about the actions of the Jedi during the Clone Wars. Cham was not specifically identified in the novel, however; we did not learn he was Hera's father until an episode of "Rebels Recon," when Lucasfilm Story Group executive Pablo Hidalgo confirmed their relation.
- The three Twi'leks each wear pieces of clone trooper armor that was left behind by Ghost Company following the Battle of Ryloth.
- Numa's armor has the word "BOIL" written on it. Boil was the name of one of the clone troopers who kept her safe during the Battle of Ryloth.
- Hera slips into a Twi'lek accent when talking to her father, revealing that it is her true voice. At the request of George Lucas, the Twi'leks in The Clone Wars were given French accents as a reference to the French Revolution, upon which some of the story of the Battle of Ryloth was based.
- Kanan Jarrus tells Cham that Mace Windu spoke very highly of him. Cham fondly recalls when he fought alongside the Jedi Master, as depicted in "Liberty on Ryloth."
- The episode refers to the Battle of Ryloth as the Battle of Lessu. Lessu is the capital city of Ryloth, and the name Battle of Lessu was first used in the 2009 reference book Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Visual Guide Ultimate Battles.
- The episode centers on the rebels stealing an Imperial carrier. The design of the carrier was based on artwork by Doug Chiang and Troy Vigil for the reference book The Essential Guide to Vehicles and Vessels, where it made reference to the Rebel ship Flurry from novel The Truce at Bakura.
