Because the source is greyscale or 256 colors or computer-generated text and GIF is crap for all of those
source material was multiple GIFs on HTML, done on purpose by starwars.com staff as part of the April Fool's Day joke
Should be JPG
Because the source is OVER 256 colors and GIF is still crap
These really need to be re-scanned or re-captured from the source, rather than converted.
