On March 4, 2011, the online Star Wars encyclopedia Wookieepedia (www.wookieepedia.com) celebrates its milestone 6th anniversary. Since its inception, Wookieepedia's mission has been to provide a free-to-edit all-inclusive repository of Star Wars information that covers material from Star Wars movies, television programs, books, comics, games, magazines, video games, and more, as well as documenting the prominent people who have contributed to the Star Wars universe. Wookieepedia aims to be readily accessible to fans across the world and fully sourced to existing canonical sources. The last six years have seen Wookieepedia grow to over 82,000 articles created and maintained by thousands of devoted Star Wars fans across the world and is currently one of the largest wikis hosted by Wikia, Inc. Out of those 82,000, the Wookieepedia community has improved over 1,000 articles to the highest-quality standards on the wiki, including in-depth articles spanning dozens of pages on contents on prominent characters and ships from the Star Wars universe such as Executor, Jacen and Jaina Solo, Mara Jade Skywalker, and Corran Horn.
Wookieepedia has also garnered attention from the authors and creators behind Star Wars content, including Paul S. Kemp, Maya Kaathryn Bohnhoff, Leland Chee, Dave Filoni, and Robert Chestney. Wookieepedia contributors were also credited in the acknowledgments for the 2010 The Essential Atlas for their assistance in the creation of that work. The wiki has become a widely-used database for all things Star Wars and continues to expand while also improving existing articles in a never-ending desire to document the galaxy far, far away as thoroughly as possible.
