Greyman has been my personal mentor almost from the moment I became active, and all along I've seen him practice ethical leadership and share his wisdom with pretty much every other user he's dealt with. He shows class, restraint, and neutrality on his talk and forum posts, and is always eager to clear up a misunderstanding or seek middle ground in a difference of opinion. Aside from all this, Greyman is a dedicated editor of the site, and has spent countless hours writing User:Greyman/Portfolio|featured and good articles, reviewing nominations, and performing often-difficult administrative tasks. What's more, he's been recognized by Wikia for his character and talent, being readily accepted into two different positions. I'd follow him anywhere. Graestan(Talk) 03:51, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

  18. My only objection is that I don't think we need more BCs, and that there are others equally qualified for this position.   1. Why do you think we need another bureaucrat?
    • It's not that we need or don't need another bureaucrat—the team that we have now is doing very well, in my opinion. However, I prefer the question to be "Does the community trust a current administrator enough to represent and lead them in a wider capacity?" Just through accepting this nomination I can tell that others believe that I will do this for them, and I firmly believe that I can do this job. My time both on and off Wookieepedia have provided me with the skills that I feel will help me in the position of representing the Wookieepedia community on and off the internet.
  2. How do you see the difference between an admin and a bureaucrat?
    • I've said it below, and I'll post it here as well: In my eyes, at least, users who are also bureaucrats are recognized leaders of both the community and the administration. I have always firmly believed this, even with the reduction of BC powers as of late. In my eyes, that "loss" of veto does not take away from what is expected of bureaucrats—dedication and leadership.
  3. What will you use your new status for if your nomination succeeds?
    • You'll see me keep doing what I've always done as an administrator. Likewise, I'll be able to hand out user rights to successful RFRs, RFAs, and RFBs when they are completed. Also, I will use this position to help protect the way of the community, and the interests that we represent.
  4. How many admins do you think we need?
    • I've always believed that if a user demonstrates the qualities and abilities to be granted sysop, then they at least deserve the nomination. Every user that is currently an administrator of this site was nominated because the community felt that they demonstrated what it took to help run this site. If future users, likewise, demonstrate that they have what it takes, and that they deserve our trust, then I see no problem in their elevation to administrator. For me, it's never been a question about numbers—it's been a question about quality.
  5. How many bureaucrats do you think we need?
    • This answer is almost the exact same as what I typed above, however, I feel that the bureaucrat position should always be reserved for those administrators who have demonstrated that they are willing to do more for the community in both terms of leadership and representation.
  6. What should happen to admins/bureaucrat candidates who disappear for awhile without warning, leaving many questions, projects, and that sort of thing hanging?
    • As long as they have let us know what's going on with them, then I don't see a problem at all. However, if an admin or BC simply picks up and leave without letting anyone know the reason, there must be a valid reason for their departure. This is a large reason why I supported the recent "absent admin" CT, because it allows for a year and multiple communication attempts before removing their power. If they are even remotely interested in staying on and helping us out around here, even in a once-every-few-months capacity, then I see no problem with that at all. It's only when there has been no communication for the better part of a year with an absent admin, that I would begin to see a problem and be worried.
  7. An additional comment from Greyman
    • You may have seen me post the following elsewhere recently on the site, but I do believe what I said there and hope that it rings true for this RFB. In my eyes, at least, users who are also bureaucrats are recognized leaders of both the community and the administration, and users who do their best to protect what the community has done here. Not that they are "infallible" in any way/shape/form, but simply that the community/administration looks up to them and their efforts, and that through their dedication to the site, they have achieved a level of leadership and recognition that they might not have always possessed as an administrator. Since I became an administrator of Wookieepedia, I've always looked up to those who have been elected bueraucrats—simply because, again in my opinion, they've done their best to exemplify what it means to be a leader. That being said, we have had some bumps along the road with past bureaucrats, but if the community/administration feel that a certain administrator is deserving of the bureaucrat position (regardless of the "power" they now wield), then I believe it is those users right to nominate those who they believe will help lead the community, and also represent Wookieepedia on a broader scope. Again, I feel that many users already see the bureaucrat position in this light, both as an honorary and (in the case of granting user rights) slightly technical position. So, with that being said, if you trust me to continue being a leader and a representative for this community, then vote support and you'll see me continue doing what I've been doing, plus more and in a wider capacity.       • I'm not going to cast an official vote for Greyman, since I think it would be inappropriate to do so after not casting one in Star's nom, but I will say he has my unofficial vote.
