Question time
  1. Why do you want to become an administrator?
    • I’d like to help the wiki by taking on additional responsibilities. From just trying to add material from some of the sources I own, I’ve already branched out into welcoming users, working on templates and reverting vandalism and being an admin would help me to be more effective.
  2. In your opinion, what is the role of an administrator?
    • Administrators have a duty to lead the community and ensure smooth running of the site, keeping the wiki free of nonsense and vandals, enforcing policies, participating in votes and helping to resolve disputes between users.
  3. In your view, do administrators hold a technical or political position?
    • A little from column A, a little from column B. The extra little buttons to help with maintaining the quality of the site are basically technical, but as representatives of the community, admins have a political position.
  4. How do feel admins should use their power/stand in comparison with other users?
    • Most of the time admins are no different from other users. Only when action needs to be taken to delete a page, block a user, offer assistance to other users, do the extra powers come into play. On other matters, like voting, admins opinions should be respected, but so should those of other users, hence the use of consensus for deciding results.
  5. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
    • Nothing major. There have been a couple of times when I’ve disagreed with other users, but such instances are better resolved by discussing it or seeking consensus, rather than an unproductive edit war.
  6. Of your articles or contributions to Wookieepedia, are there any with which you are particularly pleased, and why?
    • I played a big part in expanding Bria Tharen and Keyan Farlander and getting them both up to FA status, and was particularly pleased with Keyan because I like the fact that we can manage to write a couple of thousand words about characters who aren’t considered worthy of a Databank entry. Also, just adding as much data as possible from X-Wing: The Official Strategy Guide, much of which isn’t covered by the game and adds a lot to the story.
  7. What sysop chores do you anticipate helping with?
    • Well, I usually keep an eye on recent changes so I should be able to help stop vandalism when it happens and to get rid of nonsense articles and fanon. I’d also be happy to help out with deleting duplicate and unused images.
  8. How important is it for you to be involved in things such as CT, IDrive, FA, and other community-centered items that involve discussion and voting?
    • It is important to get involved with the community aspects of the site and I already tend to get involved in CT, FA and QOTD. Since these things affect the way people perceive the site, and help improve it, I think it’s important for everybody to get involved in at least some of them.
  9. Do you think admins performing actions (I.e. deletions, blocks, etc.) for reasons not covered on policy should be sanctioned/punished? If so, how?
    • Policy can’t cover evrything and, at least most of the time, if an admin acts it is because they believe it to be in the best interests of the site. If people disagree, then it should be discussed (probably with the other admins) and either reversed or allowed to remain based on this. I don’t think an admin should be punished for a minor disagreement but, of course, if they were actually abusing their power then some form of punishment would be needed.
  10. What is your policy, if any, of welcoming new users? Should you welcome a new user, do you look at his/her contributions beforehand? What about anonymous IPs?
    • I tend to welcome a lot of new users, and generally do have a look at their contributions first to make sure they’re not a vandal. I don’t welcome anons very often, but if I see one who is making a lot of useful contributions to the site, then I will encourage them to join.
  11. How would you react if someone undeleted an article you'd mistakenly speedied? Under what circumstances would you consider it appropriate to undelete an article mistakenly speedied by another administrator, if any, and how would you approach this task?
    • Well, I’d thank them for catching my mistake. Unfortunately, not everything that looks like nonsense is (<cough> Mount Sorrow), so this kind of mistake could happen. If I saw that another admin had mistakenly speedied something, I’d undelete it and let them know why. If I wasn’t sure, I’d contact them first to see why they’d deleted it and only retrieve it if we agreed. If it isn’t clear whether it should be deleted or not, then it should probably go for a VfD.
  12. How would you react if your user page was vandalized? Under what circumstances would you block the offender? Is there anything else that you would do in this situation?
    • I’d revert it and check their recent contributions. If it was an isolated incident, I’d give the user a warning, but if they were making a habit of it then I’d block them for a cool-down period, or a permanent ban if the vandalism was severe enough.
  13. Under what circumstances would you consider blocking an established user?
    • If an established user violates policy, eg personal attacks, vandalism, 3RR, they should be warned and, if they continue, given a cool-down block. Only if they constantly disrupt the wiki should a long-term block be used.
  14. If you could change any one thing about Wookieepedia, what would it be?
    • Nothing I can really think of. It’d be nice if we all agreed, didn’t take things so seriously all the time and didn’t end up with edit wars, but I doubt there’s much anybody can do to change that. We're only human after all.
  15. Would you look at a glass to be half-empty or half-full?
    • Half-empty, time for another round!
  16. Do you feel the current blocking policy is too restrictive, not restrictive enough, or OK as it is?
    • Looks alright to me.
  17. Have you ever considered becoming a regular visitor to the Wookieepedia IRC chat?
    • Already am.
  18. How do you feel about people who already have some influence on other Star Wars communities (TheForce.Net, StarWars.com) trying to change policies here?
    • Well, it’s a wiki so everybody’s entitled to an opinion but they shouldn’t be given any more importance than anybody else. If they’re contributing ideas then that’s great, if they’re just trying to dictate policy, they’d have to remember this is Wookieepedia, not whatever site they’re from, and we don't have to do things the same.
  19. How many clones do you think fought in the Clone Wars? (Note: You are wrong no matter what answer you give.)
    • Too many, all they needed was Fordo.
  20. Who is the most awesome Jedi of all time? (Note: The only correct answer is Kyle Katarn.)
    • That’s a tough one. Kyle Katarn?
  21. Are you or have you ever been a member of the Communist Party?
    • Hey, I may be a lot of things, a liar, a pig, an idiot, a communist, but I am not a porn star.
  22. What's more important to you: consensus or policy?
    • Policy is important as it keeps everything consistent but since most of our policies are decided by consensus and can be overridden by it, I’d have to say consensus.
  23. Have you had any previous leadership experience (in your community, on the web, etc.)?
    • I was a reluctant house captain at school! Who knew that’d ever count for something? I’m an admin on the Star Wars Merchandise Wiki, which you should all contribute to, by the way.
