Namespaces are how the content on groups of pages with a similar function on Wookieepedia are organized. Every page belongs to one distinct namespace. Every namespace begins with a reserved word in the MediaWiki software, followed by a colon, which tells the software how to treat the page. For example, this page is in the Wookieepedia namespace so it its full title is Wookieepedia:Namespaces.
List of current namespaces
The Main, or article, namespace is the central namespace to the project. This is the space where the actual encyclopedia articles are, along with redirects, disambiguation pages and a few lists. Unlike other namespaces, which have a prefix, this namespace doesn't have any prefix. For example the article Star Wars is located in this namespace.
The Talk namespace is for discussing the encyclopedia articles themselves; it is governed by the Talk page policy. For discussions about the subjects of the articles, see Wookieepedia:Discussions.
The Wookieepedia namespace is for meta-pages about Wookieepedia itself, such as status article nomination pages, official polices, and requests for user rights.
The Wookieepedia talk namespace is for discussing what the content of pages of the Wookieepedia namespace should be. Major site discsusions are held in the Senate Hall forum.
The User namespace is for users to write about themselves and to contain projects or whatever a user wishes. It is governed by the User page policy.
The User talk namespace is for messaging other users about the project. It is governed by the Talk page policy.
The File namespace is used for meta-information about media files. All files must comply with the Files policy.
The MediaWiki namespace is for system messages used in the MediaWiki software. It is only editable by Administrators to prevent abuse. For more information see Help:System messages. For a list of all system messages on Wookieepedia, see Special:AllMessages.
The Template namespace is for templates, which are pages that are intended to be transcluded or substituted on other pages.
The Category namespace helps with organization by sorting pages into categories. For more information see Help:Categories, and Wookieepedia:Layout Guide#Categories.
The Help namespace redirects to Community Central help pages. However, it can still be accessed by moving a page there. This should be done to redirect pages to local help pages instead of the Community Central ones.
The Forum namespace is for site-wide discussions such as Senate Hall, Consensus track and Trash compactor. See Forum:Index and the Fandom help page.
The Wookieepedia Contests namespace is used for various Star Wars contests hosted by Wookieepedia. See Wookieepedia Contests:Main.
The Wookieepedia Help namespace contains explanatory help pages for users and editors.
The Index namespace is used for Index pages to pages in the article namespace. See Wookieepedia:Layout Guide#Index page.
The GeoJson namespace was presumably installed with Interactive Maps extension and intended to be used with GeoJson. It is not currently in use.
The Module namespace is used for hosting local Lua modules. See the Fandom help page for more information.
The Map namespace is used for Interactive Maps. For a list of all maps, see Special:AllMaps. For more information see the Fandom help page.
Deprecated namespaces
The Bracket namespaces was used for Wookieepedia Contests:Predict the Madness, but is now no longer in use.
The Instant Expert namespace was installed with unknown functionality and never used.
The User blog namespace was used by bloggers for personal blogs. It is now deprecated, but the pages are preserved as an archive. See the Fandom help page.
The Blog namespace could be used to create bloglists but is now deprecated along with User blog. See Fandom help page.
The Message Wall namespace is used on other Fandom wikis to message other users, but Wookieepedia uses the User talk: namespace for this purpose.
The Board namespace was used by the former extension Special:Forum.
The Topic namespace was used by the former extension Special:Forum.
The Gadget and Gadget definition namespaces were developed with the Gadget extension for creating customizable Gadgets. However, they are not it use; instead, Gadget definitions are stored on the MediaWiki page MediaWiki:Gadgets-definition.
Virtual namespaces
The Special namespace is automatically created by the MediaWiki software and is not normally editable. For more information see Help:Special pages; a list of all Special pages can be found at Special:SpecialPages.
The Media namespace is for directly linking to a file instead of the description page. For example Media:Wiki.png or Media:1-JAC.flac.
Talk pages
See also: Wookieepedia:Talk page policy
Every namespace has a Talk namespace that corresponds with it for discussing the content of the corresponding namespace. Ie, the Template: namespace has the Template talk: namespace, the Wookieepedia has the Wookieepedia talk: namespace, and the mainspace itself simply has the Talk: namespace. Note that the Forum talk: namespace is deprecated and uneditable because the Forum: namespace is for discussion by definition.
