Wookieepedia takes pride in having a consistent and structured layout. This can seem daunting at first, but most articles have a similar layout and some elements are present in every type of article.
Below is an example of an article on a character. It adheres to the standard layout for character articles, as established by the Layout Guide, but is only an example of what a character article can look like. It contains some elements that other articles don't, and it is missing some elements that other articles have. Article structure is governed by the Layout Guide, which contains the most up-to-date rules and guidelines.

2. Page header
The page header consists of multiple things:
- Page title: in large text size, on the left side.
- {{Top}} template: Continuity, article status, protection status.
- Edit dropdown: in addition to the edit button, this dropdown is used to access page options, such as the page history and the move tool.
3. Infobox
The infobox displays a number of facts about the article subject in an aesthetically pleasing way. For a list of available infoboxes, see Category:Infobox templates.
4. Introduction
The introduction is a summary of the article body. It consists of two things:
- Lead/intro quote: if available.
- Intro: the length depends on the overall length of the article—a short article might have just one short intro paragraph while a long article can have several paragraphs.
5. Table of contents
The table of contents (TOC) is automatically generated after the intro if the article has more than three headings.
6. Article body
The article body is the main part of the article and contains a detailed recount of everything known about the subject. Aside from the Behind the scenes section, the article body is written from an in-universe (IU) perspective and in past tense. In a character article, the body usually consists of the following sections:
- 6.1 Biography: a retelling of the history of a character. Usually divided into smaller sub-sections.
- 6.11 Attack on Jakku: a sub-section of the Biography section.
- 6.12 Capturing Poe Dameron: another sub-section.
- 6.2 Personality and traits
- 6.3 Equipment
- 6.4 Behind the scenes: this section is used to document out-of-universe (OOU) material like author/actor/artist comments, interview material, concept development, creators/inventors, non-canon appearances, and other miscellany. Unlike the other sections of the article body, the BTS section is written from an out-of-universe perspective.
7. Appearances
The Appearances section contains a list of all in-universe narrative works, such as films, novels, and comics. These are sorted by in-universe chronological order.
8. Sources
The Sources section contains a list of all out-of-universe media, such as sourcebooks and web resources, where the subject is mentioned. These are sorted by out-of-universe publication order.
9. Notes and references
The Notes and references section contains a list of all references used in an article, automatically generated by the {{Reflist}} template.
10. Interlanguage links
The {{Interlang}} template is used to link to articles about the same subject in different languages.
11. Categories
All articles belong in one or more categories.
