Obitoki

  • Nominated by: NaruHina Talk Anakinsolo 21:37, February 19, 2011 (UTC)
  • Nomination comments: Now Podracing: there's a sport. At least when it's real podracing, where as long as you take off your helmet and shed your gloves no one can say a damn thing until someone's knees touch the ice.

  • Are you sure this guy actually exist in canon? The Complete Cross-sections states that 18 racer qualified to the Boonta, and Obitoki is not one of them. Furthermore, the novel incorrectly identifies the racers in the scene where Obitoki is first mentioned. It mentions Obitoki, Elan Mak, and Habba Kee passing Anakin in the second lap, but in the film they are Ark Roose, Gasgano and Teemto. Obitoki's scenes doesn't fit well with the film, but the two could be "merged" by stating that Obitoki, Elan Mak and Habba Kee and Ark Roose, Gasgano and Teemto all surpassed Anakin. • How about I just update it with an Ambig tag and beef up the Bts with the explaination? NaruHina Talk Anakinsolo 20:49, February 25, 2011 (UTC)
      • It'd be OK. Darth Morrt 08:56, February 26, 2011 (UTC)
        • Star Wars: Episode I Incredible Cross-Sections This is the CS book you were referring to? NaruHina Talk Anakinsolo 18:01, February 26, 2011 (UTC)
          • Yes, it is. The book says: "Eighteen Podracers, many well known at Mos Espa, qualify for the great Boonta Eve Race, in which nine-year old Anakin..." And there are listed the names of 18 racer and pictures of their podracers. Obitoki, Habba Kee and Xelbree, the three racers unique to the novelization are not among the 18 listed in the cross-sections book. Additionally, Obitoki is mentioned in the script of TPM. • Updated for these sources. NaruHina Talk Anakinsolo 02:58, March 1, 2011 (UTC)
  • I think it would be useful if you created a Podracer (profession) article to link to. The current podracer article seems to double for both podracer pods and the individuals that flew them, but I think we can justify a separate article. --Jinzler 11:27, February 25, 2011 (UTC)
    • Done. NaruHina Talk Anakinsolo 20:51, February 26, 2011 (UTC)
  • Isn't there a source to state that Anakin is the only Human who can podrace? If so, it's probably worth noting that Obitoki was a non-Human. (Also, not required, but a link to his CUSWE page would be nice as an external link.) ~ SavageBob 02:11, February 27, 2011 (UTC)
    • Never mind; CSWE says "very few Humans could do it." He does have a CSWE entry, though, which has some info that needs incorporating (such as the fact that he's non-Human, and that he is a canonical podracer from the Boonta Eve Classic). ~ SavageBob 02:14, February 27, 2011 (UTC)
      • Sorry, the entry is ambiguous over whether he raced in the Boonta. But he did race against Sebulba and experience the mishaps explained in TPM novel, just maybe not when TPM novel says. ~ SavageBob 18:12, February 27, 2011 (UTC)
        • Does the entry confirm he is male? Otherwise updated. NaruHina Talk Anakinsolo 02:58, March 1, 2011 (UTC)
          • Here's the full entry: "Obitoki An alien Podracer who competed against Sebulba during the final years of the Galactic Republic. Sebulba used the heat vents on his Podracer to cut through Obitoki's engines, knocking Obitoki out of the race. Another Podracer, Habba, was also knocked out by flying into Obitoki's debris." The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia, Vol. II, p. 402 ("Obitoki"). So, no gender specified. If I were you, though I'd consider the CSWE stuff canon, but not the stuff from the novel, since that seems to contradict most other sources. In other words, can we assume his race was on Tatooine or in the Boonta Eve Classic? ~ SavageBob 23:29, March 1, 2011 (UTC)
            • We can't assume it was on Tatooine (I got it in my head that Sebulba only raced there. :P), but I think the generic scenario of the book's story should be fine to include, which gives extra detail on why his pod crashed. Updated again, and thanks for taking the time to transcribe that. NaruHina Talk Anakinsolo 00:24, March 2, 2011 (UTC)
  • You'll need to source the bit about him being mentioned in the script, as the script isn't a commercially available product like the novelization is. A google search for "The Phantom Menace script" oughtta gitcha whatcha need. Menkooroo 06:58, March 3, 2011 (UTC)

      • Good show! Just waiting to see what you have on Bob's question below before I vote. Menkooroo 00:06, March 8, 2011 (UTC)
  • Crap. I know that I just supported, but this article is 275 words. Twenty-five words are a few too many to trim, so I think this'll half to be intro'd and brought to the GAN page. Menkooroo 04:00, March 9, 2011 (UTC)
    • FFFFFFFUUUUUUUU... Please remove the nomination then. NaruHina Talk Anakinsolo 19:56, March 9, 2011 (UTC)
      • I made a go at trimming it (to 247 words), but I may have been too severe. Feel free to revert. ~ SavageBob 22:57, March 9, 2011 (UTC)
        • After revision, it's 252. NaruHina Talk Anakinsolo 00:28, March 10, 2011 (UTC)
          • I used an online word count tool and got 247, but do as you wish, my friend. :) ~ SavageBob 00:39, March 10, 2011 (UTC)
            • IRC is apparently having...issues. Could someone please delete/fix the archive page I made. I thought I was editing the talk page. NaruHina Talk Anakinsolo 00:41, March 10, 2011 (UTC)
