- From the Council Chambers:
Is Elegos a member of the A clan? It seems to me that a being would automatically be a member of both of their parents' families/clans/whatever a certain species calls them. Unless we know of some reason why he isn't (and I can't fathom why he wouldn't be), then it seems to me that all of Elegos's appearances/sources should be listed too, and the article should then include information on Elego's life and death, which would push this way past the CAN word limit. Or should I get an F in reasoning?Master Jonathan — Jedi Council Chambers Wednesday, July 13, 2011, 23:10 UTC- You may have a C, because that's perfectly logical. However, in the source he identifies himself as part of the Kla clan and speaks of the a clan as something he doesn't belong to, saying that it was just the clan his father belonged to: "It is fairly easy for me to transfer a merehis to another member of the Kla clan or to my father's clan, the A clan." - Seems odd that he would be a member of one and not the other, but if that's what the source says, then it's fine the way it is. Master Jonathan — Jedi Council Chambers Thursday, July 14, 2011, 02:55 UTC
- Frankly, after reading the releveant excerpt, I'm a bit intrigued by the maternal/paternal clan concept and how it relates to Caamasi society, but to my knowledge no sources have fleshed this out. Too bad. NaruHina Talk

- Cultures are weird, so we shouldn't find it odd he's in only the A clan and not the Kla clan; perhaps the species is patrilineal, yet their naming practices preserve a history of the maternal clan in the name without any suggestion of membership in that clan. As for whether all of Elegos A'Kla's appearances being appearances of his clan, I'd say no. List any sources that specifically call out his clan, even indirectly, but in general, one individual does not a clan make, IMHO. ~Savage

Do we know that "A" was a strictly paternal clan? Or was it just Elegos's paternal clan?- "My markings are common among the Kla, the maternal clan into which I was born" is the closest I can find to answer that. He also says that his uncle Ylenic It'kla was "My mother's brother. We share the maternal line." It doesn't directly address that, but it doesn't seem like the sex of the individual within the clan is particularly important based on the second. NaruHina Talk

I guess what I'm getting at is perhaps we shouldn't define A as a paternal clan, but rather as a clan, and then specify that for this one individual, it was a paternal clan (without stating that it was only for him that it was paternal, of course). ~Savage

Context on memnsis.Again, I feel it's unfair to single out Elegos as a Caamasi and not Katarn as a Human, so a species ID would be nice. It's probably better to spell out when the novel was first published, since it's been reprinted and translated since then.~Savage
