Wishing beasts were legendary creatures, said to be the result of a normal beast eating a Jedi. The beast would then become a wishing beast. This legend was related to Malakili by his mentor Scraps, who planned to track down a Jedi for his pet Harr to eat. Scraps quoted an unidentified source, "And yea it is True: The beast that eats the flesh of the Jedi shall be transformed! And yea, it is True: Such a creature will become a wishing beast." Malakili had heard of wishing beasts in stories, remembering the phrase "Tell me three things you wish and I will make them so." Scraps insisted that wishing beasts featured in legends from all sorts of systems, and the stories must have their roots in truth. Still, Malakili thought Scraps couldn't really believe in the story and just told it to keep himself going.[1]
Later, when Malakili was the beastmaster in Jabba's Palace, he heard that a Jedi was coming there and remembered the old story. He told himself not to hope, but when he saw Luke Skywalker, he started to believe that the Jedi's power could be transferred to a beast. As the rancor Pateesa was sent into the pit to kill Skywalker, he told him that soon they would be free of the palace. Since Skywalker defeated Pateesa, Malakili did not discover whether wishing beasts were real.[1]
