The Wipe-3 data-purge grenade manufactured by SoroSuub Corporation was a type of grenade capable of erasing data stored on all devices within its blast radius with a brief, but intense, electromagnetic pulse. Individuals and organizations that wished to keep their data out of enemy hands made use of similar technology.[1]
The Galactic Empire made use of the Wipe-3 in facilities that handled classified materials, and saboteurs and thieves often employed the grenade as a way to cover their tracks and erase important enemy data. However, it was possible to prevent such attacks by hardening systems, but the cost and additional weight were often prohibited.[1]
Behind the scenes
The Wipe-3 data-purge grenade was mentioned in Gadgets and Gear, a roleplaying supplementary sourcebook for the Star Wars Roleplaying series that was published by Fantasy Flight Games in 2019.[1]
