- "Mara Jade is a slim, athletic young woman, possessing the grace of a Galloan Wind Dancer and the fighting prowess of a cornered Tusken Raider. This ferocious young smuggler often radiates sheer bitterness, hatred and loss, marring her beauty."
- ―Personal journal of Voren Na'al, Director of New Republic Council Research
The Wind Dancers were a sentient species native to the planet Galloa II,[1] a planet in the D'Astan sector of the Outer Rim Territories.[3] Members of the species were noted for their innate grace; accordingly,[2] in 9 ABY,[4] the Human historian Voren Na'al compared the Human smuggler Mara Jade to a Wind Dancer in his personal journal.[2] Their homeworld was integrated into the greater galaxy at some point between 3956 and 1000 BBY. During the Clone Wars of 22–19 BBY, it fell within territory controlled by the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Between 4 and 6 ABY, after the fall of the Galactic Empire, the planet was within the empire of the Imperial warlord Zsinj.[5]
Behind the scenes
The Wind Dancers were first mentioned in The Last Command Sourcebook, a 1994 supplement for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game from West End Games, which was written by Eric S. Trautmann to adapt the novel The Last Command to the roleplaying game. The species's name is used by the in-universe narrator of the work, Voren Na'al, in his description of Mara Jade.[6]
