- "You abandoned your post, defying the council and for what? A wild mynock chase."
"Stellan, you need to listen to me. The "wild mynock chase" was a success." - ―Avar Kriss and Stellan Gios
Wild mynock chase was a slang phrase used in the galaxy, which referred to a futile errand which might be a distraction to important business.[2]
During the High Republic Era, Jedi Master Avar Kriss communicated with fellow Master Stellan Gios via holoprojector. Gios revealed that the Jedi Council had suspended Kriss for abandoning her post and chastised her for defying the Council to go on a "wild mynock chase." However, Kriss disagreed, claiming her mission was a success, but an explosion rocked the base of Starlight Beacon, cutting their conversation short.[1]
Behind the scenes
The phrase is derived from the real-world phrase "wild goose chase."[3]
