The Weapons Research Facility was a private underground research center located on Naboo's moon of Rori during the Galactic Civil War. Sometime following the Battle of Yavin, the facility was under contract to the Galactic Empire.[1] In 1 ABY,[2] Stephax Dain, a lieutenant of the Corellian technology-hating terrorist organization known as the Meatlumps, launched an ambitious attack on the facility. A rival lieutenant by the name of Kaiya Merel was not keen on letting Dain take all the credit. She tasked a spacer to travel to Rori in order to disrupt the facility operations before him. The spacer succeeded in doing so, but ended up killing both Stephax Dain and a number of Meatlump pronks who had already taken over the facility.[1]

The Weapons Research Facility was a location in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[1] prior to the game's closure on December 15, 2011.[3] The Weapons Research Facility was added to the game with the update dubbed "Chapter 10: The Search for the Meatlump King," released on June 19, 2008.[4]

The Weapons Research Facility appeared in the quest "The Meatlumps Hideout, Part 7." If the player started this quest at the end of the game (combat level 90) rather than during the leveling of their character (at CL 65), the research facility would be located on Dathomir, a planet for high-level players. Multiple story elements indicated that the quest was intended to be achieved at CL 65.[1]

  2. The opening crawl of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided dates the game to after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, and additionally, Serji-X Arrogantus, who died in Star Wars (1977) 10—the events of which The New Essential Chronology dates to 0 ABY—appears in the game. Therefore, at least a portion of Star Wars Galaxies must be set in that year. Furthermore, in the game Ruwan Tokai references the destruction of the Death Star as having occurred one year earlier, and Strongholds of Resistance also places the events of Galaxies' Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" in 1 ABY. Lastly, while Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" features the Battle of Hoth—dated to 3 ABY by The New Essential Chronology—the developers have stated that the portrayal of that battle in the game is intentionally anachronistic. Therefore, the events of Star Wars Galaxies must span from 0 ABY to around 1 ABY.
