Wookieepedia's gadgets

Wookieepedia maintains several opt-in gadgets that logged-in editors can enable via the "Gadgets" menu in Special:Preferences. The purpose of gadgets is to allow for further customization of the user experience while editing on Fandom. While some gadgets offer purely cosmetic tweaks, others are primarily for utility.

The site's current gadgets are either directly imported from the Fandom Developers Wiki, modified from a tool from the developers' wiki, or coded from scratch by a Wookieepedian. The Gadgets extension added to our MediaWiki installation allows these tools to function. Issues or bugs with gadgets should be reported via Wookieepedia's Discord server or on the Administrators' noticeboard.

A small number of utility gadgets are only available to Wookieepedians with the user rights required for them to function, such as AnchoredRollback being available to rollbacks, and WHAM, available to administrators to easily clean up large amounts of vandalism after blocking a user.

Are there more?

Though not hosted as an individual gadget on Wookieepedia, a number of additional tools are available on the Fandom Developers Wiki and can be installed on your /common.js user subpage for personal use.

How do I enable them?

  1. Register an account on Fandom.
  2. Navigate to Special:Preferences.
  3. Navigate to the "Gadgets" tab (furthest right) and enable the gadgets from the provided list by clicking the checkbox(es) and clicking "Save."

Utility tools

  • PurgeButton — Adds a button to the top of pages to purge the cache.
  • EditIntroButton — Adds a button next to the regular edit button which acts as a "section edit" button for the intro, useful for long pages.
  • AjaxUndo — Adds an "Ajax undo" link next to the normal undo link on page histories and diff views, allowing for undoing an edit without having to open the revision.
  • Reference Tooltips — Allows for rolling over any inline citation to see reference information, instead of having to jump away from the article text.
  • Duplicate link tool — Adds a tool to the bottom toolbar to outline duplicate links in articles in a red border.
  • HotCat — tool for managing interlanguage links across Star Wars wikis in other languages via {{Interlang}}.
  • BetterTopNav (configured) — Several searchbar tweaks, including: allowing manual resizing, upping results count to 10, allows non-mainspace searchbar results to appear, and re-enables redirect marking in searchbar. Removed discussions link to the right of the searchbar, replaces with Theme toggler; and also makes User menu display on hover instead of click. Not recommended for new editors.
  • BetterDiff — Improvements to Special:RecentChanges, users' Special:Contributions, page histories (?action=history) and revision comparison pages (?diff=). For admins/rollbacks, also provides patrolling aids in the aforementioned pages. Not recommended for new editors.
  • WantedPagesFilter — Adds a by-namespace filter to Special:WantedPages.

Cosmetic tweaks

  • 1 — Adds a red dotted border around text that has changed in diffs.
  • 2 — Highlights all redirects orange. Recommended.

  • 4 — Link preview enabled on hover.
  • 5 — Removes the "thanks" links from RecentChanges and edit diffs.
  • 6 — Displays categories in the pre-UCP format; forces them out of the dropdown so they're visible without an additional click.
  • 7 — Hides the "Recent Images" module from the sidebar.
  • 8 — Adds the "Recent Images" module to the sidebar during spoiler periods. To work properly, the other Recent Images gadget must be disabled.
  • 9 — Displays talk pages as a dedicated button by taking them out of the dropdown; reverting to the functionality present in Oasis skin.
  • 10NoImageLightbox Removes the "image lightbox" that appears when clicking on a file. Instead, clicking on a file takes you directly to the file page, which is useful for intensive editing or general navigability.
  • 11 — Hides the Wookieepedia Discord's module from the right rail.
  • 12 — Decorative section headers for Pride Month.
