Viper 071-V-8852 was a viper probe droid that served the Galactic Empire during the Imperial Era.[2] By 3 ABY,[3] it had been sent to the planet Plexis where it undertook an eight week mission to observe the spaceport and recorded any activity of spice or weapons smuggling. The droid was also instructed to consider any sign of a Corellian YT-2400 light freighter to be high priority due to its suspected involvement in a local smuggling ring.[2]

In 3 ABY,[3] the outlaw Kay Vess infiltrated Derosha Six where the probe droid was kept and read a datapad mentioning the droid's mission.[2]
