The Vergere Compendium is an internal reference document written by Troy Denning for the development of the Legacy of the Force novel series. Completed and distributed to authors and editors in September 2005, unreleased to the public, the document would serve as a guide for the other authors of the series.[1]

According to The Essential Reader's Companion, "In preparation for the Legacy of the Force story, Denning wrote The Vergere Compendium, a twenty-seven-page outline of Vergere’s master plan to transform Jacen into a Sith, complete with an examination of all her previous appearances, with detailed commentary on her overt actions and subtle implications."[1]
Development
Although the character of Vergere was initially envisioned as a Jedi for the New Jedi Order series of novels by creator James Luceno and the New Jedi Order story team, when planning for the follow-up series Legacy of the Force in 2004, the decision was made by that story team, based on an idea pitched by Denning, to instead make the character a Sith.[2] This story choice required a different interpretation of her past; Denning took on the assignment to pen the Vergere Compendium as a guide for authors and editors, going over her previous appearances and recontextualizing Vergere's life in light of her reimaginating as a Sith.[1] As such, according to Denning, the document contained "commentary on how her words might affect the LotF story."[3] The compendium was completed and shared with the Legacy of the Force authors on September 19, 2005.[4] Denning's original copy of the document now resides in the collection at Rancho Obi-Wan.[5]
