This article is about Asajj Ventress' yellow-bladed lightsaber. You may be looking for her green-bladed Padawan lightsaber or her twin red lightsabers.

Asajj Ventress's lightsaber,[7] or simply Ventress's lightsaber, was a yellow-bladed lightsaber acquired by the bounty hunter Asajj Ventress on the black market some time after fallen Jedi Barriss Offee stole the lightsabers that Ventress had used as the apprentice of Count Dooku.[1] She viewed getting a new lightsaber as a way to distance herself from what had been her last physical link to her time as his apprentice.[6] In 19 BBY,[2] during which the lightsaber had a straight cylindrical-shaped hilt, Ventress used the lightsaber for her bounty hunting career until it was laid to rest with her on[6] her homeworld[1] of Dathomir[6] after her apparent death[8] in the second battle of Christophsis.[1] After her revival, Ventress continued to wield it as a bounty hunter during the Imperial Era, during which it had a curved hilt.[3]

Design

Ventress's lightsaber emitted a yellow-colored plasma blade.[1] In 19 BBY,[2] it had a standard, cylindrical-shaped hilt with its power cell located at the bottom of the lightsaber, under the ridged grip. The ignition trigger was located right over the grill hilt, which covered the rest of the hilt up to the blade emitter.[6]

Holding a fascinating design, the bottom of the lightsaber was a traditional, ridged grip and fully closed off section, which kept the power cell safe. Meanwhile, around three fifths of the hilt was made up by an upper section that was crafted from perforated metal, which left the inner workings of the blade exposed. Nevertheless, the design did not appear to make the weapon vulnerable to moisture damage. In effect, the glowing center of the lightsaber appeared as if it was simultaneously vulnerable and safe, remaining a powerful weapon. As such, the lightsaber reflected much of Ventress' own mental state.[6]

In 18 BBY,[4] during the Imperial Era, the lightsaber had a curved hilt and a design[3] similar to her old twin red lightsabers.[9]

Behind the scenes

Ventress's lightsaber was originally designed by Will Nichols for the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series. It was scheduled to appear in eight episodes starring Ventress and Quinlan Vos. The show was canceled, however, before the episodes were finished and the story was instead adapted into the novel Dark Disciple by Christie Golden,[10] where the lightsaber made its first appearance.[1] Nichols posted the concept design of the lightsaber in his portfolio in 2016. This design[10] was later used in the revived Season 7 of The Clone Wars, being used as half of Maul's lightsaber.[11]

The The Bad Batch Season 3 trailer first revealed a new design for the lightsaber as part of Ventress's reveal,[12] which established that Ventress survived her apparent death in the novel Dark Disciple.[8] The design made its formal first appearance in the episode "The Harbinger."[3] On May 2, 2025, a StarWars.com article on Ventress's return in Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld confirmed that the two designs were the same lightsaber.[13]

The tally marks made by Omega in The Bad Batch Season 3's first episode, "Confined," indicate the episode must take place at least twenty-one standard days following her capture as depicted in the Season 2 episode "Plan 99." According to StarWars.com "Confined" Trivia Guide | Star Wars The Bad Batch on StarWars.com (backup link), Omega spends about 164 further days in captivity by the end of "Confined." As such, the events of Season 3 must begin around 18 BBY.
