"Vader Adrift" is a short story written by Ryder Windham and published in the magazine Star Wars Insider Special Edition 2012. Its events take place in the aftermath of Star Wars (1977) 52.
Plot summary
Darth Vader survives the destruction of the Tarkin, an experimental weapons platform battle station over the planet Hockaleg that had been sabotaged by Rebels. Adrift in his TIE Fighter, he is rescued by a stormtrooper veteran of the Clone Wars, whom Vader recognizes as part of Shadow Squdron, a unit he commanded back when he was Anakin Skywalker.

The Tarkin storyline is from Marvel Comics' Star Wars issues #51-52, published in 1982.[1]
