Vac-shovels were a type of shovel used for shoveling.[1] They could have solid[3] or perforated heads with tubing running from the head[1] up into a sifter hopper.[3] In 32 BBY,[4] a gray vac-shovel with a perforated head and no sifter hopper was sat by the door to the Skywalker home in Slave Quarters Row in the city of Mos Espa on the desert planet Tatooine when the child Anakin Skywalker brought a group of offworlders inside to shelter from a sandstorm.[2]
In 10 BBY,[5] the mine worker Dezine Krisso used a solid-headed vac-shovel with a red sifter hopper, metallic gray tubing, and a white handle while working in the criminal Pyke Syndicate's spice mines on the planet Kessel.[3]
Behind the scenes
A vac-shovel first appeared in the 1999 Prequel trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace.[2] The prop was first identified in the 2017 reference book Star Wars: The Visual Encyclopedia.[1]
