Cartographer has given permission

received the following from Carty in my PM box on the boards:

"If you're still interested in my maps, I'd be happy to allow there use for Wookieepedia. It's a cool project and I'd be honored to be a part of it."

so all lights are green! JustinGann 18:46, 18 Oct 2005 (UTC)

  • Awesome. I assume all maps have already been uploaded, then again have they? -- Riffsyphon1024 19:44, 18 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Propositional Organization

There's been a bit of a debate over at the Battle of Coruscant (Clone Wars) page. I argue that this should be called the first battle, because in the other, it was just anakin killing a bunch of droids, which can hardly be called a battle. I think it would be so much simpler if events were arranged by:

  • Battles- Battle of Kashyyyk, Battle of Cato neimoidia
  • Missions- The devaron Ruse, Mission to the rig

If we arranged the two separatley, it would make organizing the clone wars, or any war, a lot easier. --Xilentshadow900 10:14, 25 Oct 2005 (UTC)

  • I disagree, mainly because, didn't we already have this discussion? QuentinGeorge 06:15, 25 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Happy Birthday!

Now you can legally drink everywhere except Utah, I think. — Silly Dan 03:12, 25 Oct 2005 (UTC)

  • I've already tasted a beer, a Kahlua, and a drop of whiskey, none of which I enjoyed. I need to wash them down with some blue milk. -- Riffsyphon1024 03:13, 25 Oct 2005 (UTC)
    • Jameson & Ginger Ale. It won't do you wrong. --SparqMan 04:36, 25 Oct 2005 (UTC)
  • Wine. For your first alcohol experience, you want wine. Happy birthday. Thanos6 18:22, 25 Oct 2005 (UTC)

New template request

Because Battles can't describe all Jedi or clone commando or other activity during the Clone wars, or any war for that matter, I think a new template would be very useful for different, smaller, but still significant events. A "mission" template would be great, and there we could put stuff that don't really go with battles, but link to other articles better. Xilentshadow900 23:32, 25 Oct 2005 (UTC)

  • It's a good idea, considering that not all engagements were full out battles but just minor encounters and missions. Present it to the community before creating it if you haven't done so already. -- Riffsyphon1024 04:18, 26 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Canon

Can I have your permission to put a non-canon tag on Star Wars 78: Hoth Stuff? This is the only tale in the Marvel line that is complete bunk; it has Wedge as Luke's child hood buddy, basically he takes Biggs' backstory and a huge number of Fans consider it to be too condtradictive after Shadows of the Empire. Anyways let me know when you get a chance. Thanks a lot. Wasn't sure about the Char-stub on the bombtrooper, thanks for fixing it btw.

sniktawt 03:25, 31 Oct 2005 (UTC)

  • Well the thing is it was probably canon when it was released but has since been overwritten by Biggs story. I don't get into canon that much but try asking Silly Dan, Kuralyov, jSarek, QuentinGeorge, or SparqMan. -- Riffsyphon1024 19:31, 31 Oct 2005 (UTC)
  • My understanding is that it was officially declared apocryphal. So yeah, sniktawt, go ahead and slap a non canon on the actual paqe that contains the plot summary. QuentinGeorge 19:33, 31 Oct 2005 (UTC)
    • You can always rely on Quentin to sort these things out. -- Riffsyphon1024 19:37, 31 Oct 2005 (UTC)
  • Wait, I'm one of the canon experts now? I chose this username so that no one would take me seriously, for pete's sake...having said that, I believe that this WOTC article has brought it into canon as a bizarre tall tale Wedge tells new recruits (though based partly on something that actually happened shortly after ESB.) — Silly Dan 22:34, 31 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Somewhat unrelated, but should the single-player story in Battlefront II be considered canonical?--Xilentshadow900 23:51, 31 Oct 2005 (UTC)

  • Yes, we typically do treat the single-player story of games as canon. WhiteBoy 23:20, 31 Oct 2005 (UTC)
  • Thanks guys , I'll put a non canon on it as Biggs' Backstory as Luke's best friend was around long before this tale (See Marvel Star Wars 17 and even # 1 and 5, 6, the novel) .I still never bought into the "tall tale" explanation, mainly because the story is not told at the beginning from Wedge's perspective It's a flashback tale for sure, but not a flashback tale where he tells other pilots the story.Luke, Leia and some unnamed pilot find a transmission log he made, therefore he would have no reason to lie on the log, because this would have been the first time he told the tale.

Also Luke is way out of character even before he heard the log, going balisitic over his best buddy and such.Basically obsessed because he was his frind from Tatooine. It's just way broad even for a Marvel issue. The real explanation I can gather is that this was a fill in issue and Michelinie had this tale wrote maybe before he knew some history or it just snuck by some Lucas people cause they didn't know one way or another either. sniktawt 9:56, 31 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Gundark

Hey there! Thanks for the help on the newly-created gundark article! I was kind of in a rush to get it created, so my grammar wasn't really up to snuff. --Culix 06:00, 1 Nov 2005 (UTC)

  • Just doing my usual work. Check the reply on the talk page. -- Riffsyphon1024 06:02, 1 Nov 2005 (UTC)

Sources vs Appearances

You must know that it is improper to place both the same book or comic or movie as both a source and an appearance. It clutters up the article by repeating itself. Books or guides with info on something are under Sources. Movies, comics, and books where the person or thing makes an appearance goes under Appearances. -- Riffsyphon1024 20:01, 1 Nov 2005 (UTC)

Soz - I wasn't thinking straight and couldnt decide which one to use so put both until my brain worked and I could re-edit it. Looking back I can't believe I was being so thick! Emtrey 20:42, 1 Nov 2005 (UTC)

Do you know this man?

Steven Greenwood: a very stubby article, i figured either you or WhiteBoy could complete it :-) --Azizlight 01:45, 2 Nov 2005 (UTC)

  • Shit, you caught me. -- Riffsyphon1024 04:23, 2 Nov 2005 (UTC)

      • And now feast your eyes upon my great bio, not finished yet though. -- Riffsyphon1024 04:44, 2 Nov 2005 (UTC)

SUPERSHADOW ALERT

I dont know whether its the actual Supershadow or whether its one of his disciples but someone has made strange reverts all over the place by the name of Supershadow. It would be wise to take a look before more damage is done. --Darth Mantus 17:56, 2 Nov 2005 (UTC) I've just tried to get onto my user talk page and he's reverted it to the main page. I am going to seriously hurt this idiot. YOU have power stop him! --Darth Mantus 17:56, 2 Nov 2005 (UTC)

  • Angela has already fixed this problem. Yay! -- Riffsyphon1024 19:04, 2 Nov 2005 (UTC)
  • Yeh its great!--Darth Mantus 19:37, 2 Nov 2005 (UTC)

Hi. I'm concerned about this image. I feel it is violating Wikimedia trademarks. Could you please make something else for Wookienews? Angela (talk) 20:28, 2 Nov 2005 (UTC)

Re: Of all time

Somehow, I'm not surprised that Lucas is the one to cross that boundry. Kuralyov 04:45, 3 Nov 2005 (UTC)

All those animals on Mimban

I've been meaning to ask you this for a while Riff... quite a while back you created a bunch of sourceless articles about creatures of Mimban, such as the Aboe. Just wondering what the source is for all these, I'm guessing Splinter of the Mind's Eye or a related sourcebook? I flicked thru SotME a couple of times, but couldn't find the references. Thanks. --Azizlight 01:32, 4 Nov 2005 (UTC)

  • You might have to go over those. I grabbed some from Wikipedia but as always, those people cannot be trusted. So check them over if you must. I believe the creatures themselves are canon, but they might not all come from Mimban. -- Riffsyphon1024 05:37, 4 Nov 2005 (UTC)

Main Page history

Has anyone archived the Main Page history that was disrupted by the vandalism run today? Also, I think now might be a good time for us to reconsider moving the entire front page to templates and then locking it. --SparqMan 01:03, 6 Nov 2005 (UTC)

  • See User:Silly Dan/Temp for a plaintext list. — Silly Dan 01:56, 6 Nov 2005 (UTC)

Pedophilia in my watch list?!?!?!?!!?

Umm, I'm not sure how, and I'm not sure who to bring this up to, but these wierd articles with "Pedophilia" in the title keep ending up in my watch list even though I didn't add them. It's kinda wierd. Any ideas? Shadowtrooper talk 01:19, 6 Nov 2005 (UTC)

  • This was due to the vandal we had earlier today. — Silly Dan 01:30, 6 Nov 2005 (UTC)
    • According to the "Popular Pages" list, the Main Page is still listed as Pedophilia_rules! Thanos6 01:49, 6 Nov 2005 (UTC)

Award nominations?

Riff, how do we go about nominating someone for an award? I think StarNeptune deserves the Pit Droid Award of Diligence for her work on recategorizing the planets and systems articles. --Azizlight 01:10, 7 Nov 2005 (UTC)

  • In that instance, nominations are not needed. If you feel the user has contributed greatly in one area or another, you ultimately decide if they get the award. -- Riffsyphon1024 04:57, 7 Nov 2005 (UTC)

Bannination required

205.188.117.5, he needs to be banned. [Redacted by administration] MarcK 01:53, 8 Nov 2005 (UTC)

  • 205.188.116.70 did the same thing to the Wedge Antilles article.... 141.154.179.65 01:57, 8 Nov 2005 (UTC)
  • Another one...interesting how they're all so similar, wocka wocka wocka. MarcK 02:30, 8 Nov 2005 (UTC)
    • All three are AOL proxy IPs. Can't we just ban AOL altogether? From the entire internet, but starting with Wookieepedia? —Darth Culator (talk) 02:31, 8 Nov 2005 (UTC)
      • Bannination complete. I wouldn't know how to do a range block. -- Riffsyphon1024 02:32, 8 Nov 2005 (UTC)
        • The info you need is usually listed in a whois query, in this case the range would be 205.188.0.0/16. I don't know how this gets implemented on the Admin end of things, though. —Darth Culator (talk) 02:36, 8 Nov 2005 (UTC)
      • If only, Darth...if only. MarcK 02:34, 8 Nov 2005 (UTC)

Can we get a ban please?

68.1.163.241 needs to go. Requests for his banning have been posted by at least 5 different people on the CP talk before you archived it, the Vandalism in progress page twice, on a few VFDs, and the talk page of the latest page he's screwed up. —Darth Culator (talk) 04:33, 13 Nov 2005 (UTC)

  • I've done so. QuentinGeorge 04:40, 13 Nov 2005 (UTC)
    • Crap beat me to it, but only because the wiki was slow. -- Riffsyphon1024 04:57, 13 Nov 2005 (UTC)
      • Will your expiration time of 24 hours override QuentinGeorge's longer expiration time? Because this guy isn't likely to give up, and his IP indicates he's on a cable modem (which are semi-static) and a longer block would probably be appropriate. —Darth Culator (talk) 17:10, 13 Nov 2005 (UTC)
  • Not sure. -- Riffsyphon1024 03:21, 14 Nov 2005 (UTC)

Cartographer's permission

Hey Riffs. We should probably keep a copy of any permissions granted to Wookieepedia for use of copyrighted material online somewhere that all admins can reach it, in the event of a complaint. --SparqMan 07:26, 14 Nov 2005 (UTC)

  • Well you will have to talk to JustinGann as he was granted access to use Carty's stuff. He only told me via what conversation he had with him about it. I will try to hold all other permissions. -- Riffsyphon1024 18:38, 14 Nov 2005 (UTC)
    • Well now after archiving I see the quote Justin sent me here. So theres the text. -- Riffsyphon1024 18:45, 14 Nov 2005 (UTC)

additions to manual of style?

Because of some pictures in articles throwing off the text in an ugly way, I suggest that an adition to the manual of style be made, saying that all headers and lists should be on the left side of the page, to prevent ugliness.--Xilentshadow900 21:01, 14 Nov 2005 (UTC)

  • What examples do you have of this? -- Riffsyphon1024 05:18, 15 Nov 2005 (UTC)
    • The Clone commander, check the talk page.--Xilentshadow900 11:35, 15 Nov 2005 (UTC)
    • Also, the clone trooper page, the clone pilot pic near the bottom is really too small, but if it is any bigger, it throws the header off, and should be moved to the right. Unfortunately, Jack nebulax holds that Pictures should be on opposite sides from each other. --Xilentshadow900 22:48, 15 Nov 2005 (UTC)
      • Well it really depends on where the image is in the article. Right now I don't see a problem with the clone trooper page, and the clone trooper commander page is fixed. We could make a recommendation in the Manual of Style, but I wouldn't consider a rule set in stone, because of all the variations we come across. -- Riffsyphon1024 19:25, 16 Nov 2005 (UTC)

Sorry

Sorry about the Wookie animation over on the Wookie page. It was an experiment--Darth Mantus 18:33, 23 Nov 2005 (UTC)
